After being on the back burner for months, the Charleston County Council has plans to make a decision on a proposed car rental fee.

Charleston County car rental fee back on table

Charleston County Council voted 8-1 Tuesday in favor of a new 5% tax on rental car receipts in the county. The tax would create a fund for expansion of air service, including the luring of low-cost air carriers to Charleston International Airport .

The measure was passed April 27 by the House and Senate, and sent to Gov. Linda Lingles desk. The bill will raise daily car rental fees from $1 to $4.50, and raise about $45 million next fiscal year.
